The Brief

Full AV and network upgrade for a community church hall — replacing a 15-year-old system with a modern, user-friendly setup simple enough for any volunteer to operate.

The Challenge

The existing system was over 15 years old — difficult to EQ, inconsistent in coverage and frustrating for non-technical users. The client's goal had shifted: they wanted to start hiring the hall out to external groups, which meant the AV system needed to be simple enough for any person to walk in and operate without calling anyone. The old system made that impossible.

Our Approach

Our approach centred on usability from day one. Rather than just replacing hardware, we designed the entire experience around someone with no AV training. One large switch on the wall powers everything. Plug in a laptop via HDMI, connect a phone via 3.5mm or XLR, or switch on a wireless mic — that's it. The projector turns on automatically when HDMI is detected. Volume is controlled from a wall-mounted tablet with a PIN. The entire operating guide fits on a single laminated A5 page. Remote access was also built in — if the client ever needs a setting changed or a new input added, we log in and handle it without a site visit.

The scope extended beyond the hall itself. Before the main install, we upgraded the full network and Wi-Fi across the building, and modernised the wireless mic system and mixer in the main church — switching to a system the volunteer team could run confidently without training. For portable use, we supplied two battery-operated Everse 12 speakers with Sennheiser wireless packs, capable of receiving audio from the main system wirelessly or running independently with their own mic via the built-in 12V or USB-C outputs. All XLR, power and HDMI cabling was replaced throughout. The amplifier rack was installed under the stage with ventilation — hidden from view and protected from anyone adjusting settings.

I love this system — it's simple to use, looks neat and sounds awesome! It's crystal clear.
