As a rough guide, a single speaker on a stand covers a small meeting or a 30-to-50 person function. Add a sub and a second top and you're comfortable for a 150-person wedding reception or corporate dinner. Bigger crowds, long rooms or outdoor sites need more boxes spread for even coverage so the back row hears the same mix as the front — and outdoors you always need more power, because there are no walls to keep the sound in.

Speech and music also pull in opposite directions. A conference wants clarity and intelligibility above all; a live music gig wants headroom and low-end punch.
