What it costs to hire the Starlink Mini

Compact, portable Starlink satellite internet you can set up almost anywhere — ideal for crews, remote shoots, off-grid work and small events. Unlimited data included — no allowance to watch and no excess data charges. Gold Coast pickup or delivery. Minimum 2-day hire. The Starlink Mini — Portable Satellite Internet hires at $60 per day including GST, with a 2-day minimum covering bump-in, the event and bump-out. Multi-day rates are applied automatically rather than negotiated: 2 days is $120, 3 days is $153, and a week is $357. You do not need a code or a phone call to get that; the rate drops as soon as you set your dates.

We hold 3 of these, so more than one can go out on the same booking — worth knowing if you are covering multiple rooms, stages or camera positions. Availability still depends on your dates, so earlier is better on a busy weekend.

What comes with the Starlink Mini

Every Starlink Mini — Portable Satellite Internet hire includes starlink Mini unit, built-in Wi-Fi router, Power cable & DC adapter and carry case. That is what goes out with the hire. Everything is checked and tested between hires.

Event networking only gets noticed when it drops out, which is why the fibre, switching and redundancy get planned long before the show does. If something on this page is not quite the right fit, say what you are actually trying to do and we will tell you honestly whether this is the item for it, or whether something else in the networking & fibre range does the job better.

Which Starlink do you need?

The Mini is the self-serve one. You collect it from the Gold Coast or we post it to you, it fits in a backpack, and you set it up yourself in about two minutes — remote work, a shoot in the bush, a caravan trip, a property with no service, a boat. It travels and it keeps working while you move.

If the internet has to carry a crowd — a live stream in front of an audience, EFTPOS at a bar, a few hundred guests on their phones — hire Starlink Event Internet instead. Same satellites, bigger dish, proper access points, and a crew who set it up and watch it. How a managed deployment works.

Both run on unlimited data with no allowance to watch and no excess charges, and both need the one thing satellite internet always needs: an unobstructed view of the sky.

Pickup, delivery and setup

You can collect the Starlink Mini — Portable Satellite Internet from us on the Gold Coast, or we can deliver it to your venue, site or office. Pickup costs nothing extra and suits anyone already passing through; delivery is quoted on distance and access, and tends to be the better option once a booking runs to more than a couple of items. We deliver throughout the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Tweed Heads, Byron Bay and the Sunshine Coast.

An operator can be supplied with the Starlink Mini — Portable Satellite Internet if you would rather not run it yourself. That is worth considering for a live event, where there is no second take and nobody has time to learn the gear on the day.

Common questions

How fast is the Starlink Mini?

Typically 50–150 Mbps down and 10–25 Mbps up, which is enough for HD streaming, video calls, EFTPOS, large file uploads and a few people working at once. Speed depends on how clear its view of the sky is and how busy the satellites overhead are, so it varies through the day rather than sitting on one number.

Is there a data limit?

No. Every hire is on an unlimited plan — no allowance to watch, no excess data charges and nothing to top up. Stream, upload and video call as much as you need for the length of the hire.

Can I use it while driving or on a boat?

Yes. In-motion use is enabled on our units, so it works in a 4WD, caravan, van or boat as well as parked up. It needs to sit flat and secure with a clear view of the sky — on a roof, a bull bar mount or a flat deck — and it will keep a connection while you move.

What do I need to power it?

It runs from 12V DC, USB-C PD or mains power, and the hire includes the power cable and DC adapter. It draws about 15–20 W once connected, with a brief peak near 60 W while it boots. As a rough guide that is around 5 hours from a 100 Wh power station, most of a day from a 500 Wh one, and two to three days from a 100 Ah deep-cycle battery.

Where does it work?

Anywhere in Australia with an unobstructed view of the sky — remote properties, national parks, beaches, offshore, job sites and anywhere mobile coverage gives up. What stops it is something solid overhead: dense tree canopy, a carport, a verandah or a shed roof. If the spot you have in mind is doubtful, send us the location with your enquiry and we will tell you honestly whether it will work.

How long does it take to set up?

A couple of minutes. Unfold it, point it at open sky, plug it in and connect to its Wi-Fi — the network name and password are printed on a card in the case, and we email you the same details with a quick-start guide before the hire starts. There is no account to create and no app required.

How many devices can connect?

Wi-Fi is built in and comfortably handles around 10–20 phones and laptops. There is also an ethernet port if you want to run your own router, a mesh system or a wired device such as a streaming encoder.

What happens if it rains?

It keeps working. Heavy rain or thick storm cloud can slow it for a few minutes while the weather passes over, but normal rain makes little difference. The unit itself is weatherproof and designed to live outside.

How much does it cost to hire the Starlink Mini?

$60 per day including GST. Longer hires cost less per day — 3 days is $153 and a week is $357 — and the rate drops automatically when you choose your dates, so there is nothing to ask for.

Can I pick up the Starlink Mini on the Gold Coast?

Yes. You can collect it from us on the Gold Coast at no extra cost, or we can deliver it to your venue or site. We cover the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Tweed Heads, Byron Bay and the Sunshine Coast, with delivery quoted on distance and access.

How long can I hire the Starlink Mini for?

From 2 days upward, which is the minimum covering bump-in, the event and bump-out. Hire days are 24-hour periods, and the per-day rate falls with the length of the booking, down to 15% off the daily rate from three days on.

Do you have more than one Starlink Mini?

Yes — we hold 3, so multiples can go out on the same booking. Availability still depends on the dates, so it is worth checking early if you need several for a multi-camera or multi-room job.

Can you supply an operator with the Starlink Mini?

Yes. We can supply a technician to run it, which is worth doing on a live event where there is no opportunity for a second take. Ask for it with your quote and we will price the crew alongside the gear.
